Rabanus Magnentius Maurus, 780?–856

Rabanus Magnentius Maurus, a celebrated Roman Catholic pedagogical author, wrote many sermons and treatises and was distinguished for his charity towards the poor.  Among his numerous works are theological commentaries on nearly all the books of the Hebrew Bible and De rerum naturis, also known as De universo, which is a 22-volume encyclopedic compilation.
