Heinrich Eberhard Gottlob Paulus, 1761–1851

Heinrich Eberhard Gottlob Paulus was a German rationalistic theologian who wrote Das Leben Jesu als Grundlage einer reinen Geschichte des Urchristentums (The Life of Jesus as Basis of a Pure History of Early Christianity) in 1828, in which he argued that Jesus of Nazareth survived being crucified.  Other German theologians of the period, such as Friedrich Ernst Daniel Schleiermacher, held the same idea.
