Ann Page joined
Amos Bronson Alcott’s
Fruitlands in July 1843. Unfortunately, the radicalism of this community did not extend to the roles assigned to women—who were just as saddled with work and household chores at Fruitlands (if not more so) as at anywhere else. Eventually Page was dismissed from the group, reportedly because she had broken the strict rules of diet by eating fish.
